Port of Spain, Trinidad. Tuesday 22nd January, 2013. Angostura Limited has decided to sponsor Starlift Steel Orchestra and signed a contract to that effect, on Friday 18th January at the company’s compound. The group will now be referred to as White Oak Starlift. “This will be the second time that Angostura would be sponsoring the orchestra under the same name as they did so in 1964” said Captain Michael Franco, at the signing.
Angostura is happy to be able to re-kindle its relationship with this well-known orchestra as they begin their quest for the panorama title this year. The company hopes that they will again be as lucky as they were when they won the National Panorama title in 1969 with the song – “The Bull” sung by Lord Kitchener and arranged by Ray Holman. Under their sponsorshiop, the orchestra was successful and went on to achieve victory again in 1971 with Sparrow’s “Queen of the Band” and again in 1978 with another Sparrow rendition called “Du Du Yemi Black Beauty.”
The company expects only good things from the White Oak Starlift Steel Orchestra and is confident that they will excel in this year’s National Panorama. They will be performing “Bounce and Drive”, sung by Blaxx and arranged by Keith Salcedo and composed by Clive Telemaque. Angostura has had a great association with the nation’s steel orchestras, spanning over 40 years and they are delighted to be able to sponsor this band once again. They looks forward to a meaningful relationship with starlift over the next three years, and encourages everyone to come out and hear them practice at their pan yard situated at No. 1 Christopher Samuel Drive, Woodbrook.
